Have you ever had one of those days where nothing goes the way you want it to? Well I have. I was hoping to get some clothes washed. That never happened. I was hoping to take the dog for a walk. Again that never happened. What was the reason? My 13 month old son, of course! I have spent most of today moving him away from the fridge, where he tries to help himself to eggs and yogurt. I have been up and down more times than a yo-yo keeping him away from the dog feeding area. I say keeping him away, it was more of a very feeble attempt, which resulted in dog biscuits in the water and the water bowl spread across my kitchen floor. By the time I sat down to catch a breath, of course it was lunchtime! This would be the point where he decides to let me know he is hungry, by screeching at my knee and jamming his hand in the fridge door again. I’m amazed I actually get anything done some days!! I have two other children, aged 7 and 4, but they are currently on holiday with my mum for a week, so it has been peaceful. Well, less noisy!
Lunchtimes are fun. They are what are known in this house as the dog’s
3 second rule – you leave the room, he will finish it for you, whether you wanted it or not! Once that is over and done with, it is naptime.
I’m quite lucky as he will sleep for a couple of hours, leaving me with the time to potter about, attempt to get some dishes done and tidy up the destruction before Round 2 later in the afternoon!
Thankfully I will be working from home very soon. At the moment I am a full time stay-at-home-mum. I will still be a full time stay-at-home-mum; I will just be working at the same time, selling jewellery. I have also been diagnosed with mild chronic fatigue syndrome, so things can get quite hard at times. I’m very grateful for my husband to be working from home as well. The children have the advantage here of both parents around to support them whenever they need it. I have the advantage of an extra pair of hands!
On the high note of the day though, he started walking properly. We are both so proud of him. He also looks so proud of himself, pottering about with a little ball in his hands, then losing balance and falling on top of the dog. The dog, by the way, isn’t so impressed, but we are lucky to have such a child-friendly dog! So, in-between all the destruction and giggles of today, we have been practising walking round the front room, between mummy and daddy. This is the third time I have done this now, and it is the third time I have felt my heart swell with pride at the sight of my little monkey toddling about the place. Ask me again in a fortnight and I may have a completely different answer, but for now I’m so happy.
